| District 11 would like to recognize Retired Member J. Robert Breslin on helping save a man by performing CPR. Here is the account from the staff at the fitness center:
"On the morning of March 11, 2008 members came to the JFK Fitness Center for a normal day's workout. However, that was not the case. One of the members, who is also a volunteer at the hospital, suffered a collapse while exercising on the treadmill. Another fitness center member, John Breslin, who is also a retired firefighter and was on a nearby treadmill, went to that member's aid, who at that time still had a pulse. Karen Scupp, the Exercise Assistant/Massage Therapist that was working that morning quickly called 9-1-1 and also informed JFK security of this accident and that help was needed.
At this time, the client had become unconscious and John was beginning to perform CPR. Karen had rushed over with the CPR mask kit and the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). As Karen continued with CPR, she had asked another fitness member to run down the hall and see if there were any doctors or nurses present. Donna Kozub, RN-BC, one of the Clinical Education Coordinators, was there doing a General Hospital Orientation. Donna quickly ran to help with the unconscious man. While Donna took over the breathing, Karen continued with the chest compressions and set up the AED, which delivered the life saving shock to the members' heart. EMT help arrived shortly after and were able to transport him to the JFK Emergency."
Congratulations to Bob and all others involved in this CPR save. |
