| At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday both Iselin fire districts were dispatched to a possible house fire on Avon Terrace in the West end of District 11. Chief Phillips arrived on scene a few minutes after dispatched and reported confirmation of a structure fire with smoke showing. Ladder 11-2-1 arrived on scene and immediately went to work on fire attack and victim search operations. The interior crews discovered that the fire was in the attic space; with no access into the attic the firefighters had to pull down parts of the ceiling in order to extinguish the stubborn fire. In a short time the streets were filled with multiple other units from both districts that combined to support the operations with ventilation, secondary attack and search teams as well as an integrated command system. This coordinated effort to rapidly mitigate a dangerous situation is keeping within the highest traditions of the fire service along with the bravery of the men and women that are a part of it. |
