| Shortly after 8pm on April 28th the Iselin Volunteer Fire Co. #11 was dispatched to Lynn Crest School #22 on multiple reports of a trash can on fire that was spreading to a near by playground. The first arriving engine Captain reported a large column of smoke visible from several blocks away and fire engulfing playground equipment upon arrival. The initial attack crew quickly identified the underlying ground material to be highly flammable recycled tires. The fire was knocked down quickly and an extensive overhaul was done to extinguish hot spots within the tire material. The cause of the fire is under investigation. |
