The Iselin Chemical Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 100 years, to promote this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign:

"Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower"

The campaign focuses on lithium-ion battery charging safety and the steps everyone can take to prevent fires caused by improperly charged or damaged batteries.

According to the NFPA, local fire departments responded to approximately 1.38 million fires across the United States in 2024, resulting in:

3,920 civilian fire deaths
11,780 civilian fire injuries
$19 billion in property damage

"These numbers show that home fires continue to pose a significant threat to safety," said Lorraine Carli, NFPA Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy. "In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out."

While Fire Prevention Week focuses on home fire safety, these messages apply wherever people live, work, and gather.

"Situational awareness is a skill everyone should use wherever they go. No matter where you are, always look for available exits. If an alarm sounds, take it seriously and leave the building immediately."

The Iselin Chemical Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company invites residents and families to attend its annual Open House in support of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign.
