We would like to thank the instructors at MCFA for the training and knowledge as well as Colonia First Aid Squad EMT's Lisa and Shana for standing by and monitoring our safety. We are urging the community to shovel out the fire hydrants near your homes and businesses. By digging out the hydrants on or near your property, you are saving the first few precious minutes that we have while pulling up to an incident. Please help us by adopting the fire hydrants in your area and shovel about 3 feet around the hydrants as well as a path to them. This will enable us to make the necessary connections in the unfortunate event of a fire. Thank you for your support. This event is held during National Fire Prevention Week and the theme this year was to "Stay Fire Smart". Our focus was to interact with the public as well as to educate them on basic fire safety measures with their family. The Open House was held at Fire Headquarters from 11am to 4pm. There was a very good turnout, with over 150 people attending. We had five learning stations, with the sixth station being photos with Sparky the Fire Dog. The Open House was the end of a long week for the Firefighters. They spent the days teaching Fire Safety at the three elementary schools in our fire district. They spent their nights setting up for the Open House on Saturday. There were many hours put in this week, but its all worth it seeing the joy on the children's faces while they are exploring a fire truck or learning about fire safety. We hope that the knowledge provided by our firefighters will help save lives. Thanks to the Firefighters and all who came together to make this event possible. The structure was well involved upon arrival and they were assigned to a hose line near the front porch. There was a partial building collapse, and without regard for his own safety, FF Williamson pushed his partner out of the way as the roof and walls came down on him. The Firefighters on scene had to cut the roof off of him. FF Williamson and some other Firefighters were transported to Rahway Hospital, where they were treated and released. FF Williamson is a dedicated Firefighter and is an asset to District 11. Congratulations on a well deserved award.
